Frugal Science Activity....Project Feeder Watch

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is known for many great outreach projects.  They love getting children involved in science and offer many free opportunities to do so  (Great Backyard Bird Count, NestWatch, ebird).

They also offer an opportunity to be involved in some real science that is available for a small fee.

Project Feeder Watch is only $15 ($12 if you are a member).  The project runs from November through April.  This is a great opportunity for your children to observe, classify and enter data, about birds that visit your yard, onto a real science website.  You also have an option to submit paper forms by mail.  You will receive a calendar, and identification charts and the instructions you need to complete the project.

They also have a Homeschooler's Guide to Project Feeder Watch, that you can download with lesson plans for you.

If this sounds like something your children would enjoy, I encourage you to check it out!!

  1. This looks like a lot of fun! I think we will do this as a homeschool activity.
