Carbonite online backup...Try it FREE for 15 days!

I have had experience with my computer crashing, and losing data.  I am sure I am not alone....Thankfully, my local computer repair shop was able to help me out, and retrieve important pictures and files for me.  They recommended purchasing an external hard drive.  I did that, but have to say the external hard drive only is useful if you actually back things up!  Haha!

I have a friend who has used Carbonite, and really likes it.  It backs up your computer automatically!!  No more remembering to actually transfer files, etc. to your external hard drive.

Carbonite has a great offer right now, and this is what they say about it:
"Try Carbonite online backup for 15 days. Then get 2 extra months with your purchase. Your life is on your computer. With so much to lose, there's only one smart way to protect it. Carbonite online backup is the easy, automatic and secure way to safeguard your irreplaceable computer files. These days we all have things on our computers we just can't stand to lose: photos, music, financial documents and more. Carbonite works automatically and continually to make sure your computer files—and memories—are backed up offsite. Try Carbonite at no charge. No credit card required. Try Carbonite today • Unlimited online backup • Automatic and continuous • Encrypts files for privacy • Installs in minutes—PC or Mac • Trusted by over 1 million customers • Get your backed up files from any computer or smartphone • Only 59USD a year."

I'm Back!!!!

Maybe you didn't know I was gone...

I actually never went anywhere, but had a major computer glitch...Tuesday morning, after acting very strange for the last several days, Windows refused to open for me....some missing or corrupt file, I guess.

Anyway, I will spare you the details, but yay! I am up and running again with a new (to me), refurbished computer for a fraction of the cost of new.  Thank you to the great help of the guys at Reboot in Mendota Heights! Pin It Print Friendly and PDF

Advice given to me about Surfing the Internet Safely

After having our computer repaired a few weeks ago, it has been working great!  Yay!  I was thrilled to find a small computer shop, close to home, that did a great job recovering my files and getting it up and running for me again.
I wanted to pass along some of the advice that they gave to me.  I had been running Norton 360, which takes up a lot of space, and processing power.  They said I probably didn't need something like that, unless I was running a small business out of my home.  Their opinion was to use a few FREE programs that are out there to take care of anti-virus and spyware, malware, etc.
This is what they recommended:
*Always use Mozilla Firefox as your browser, as many infections take advantage of Internet Explorer, Firefox is a safer alternative. (www.getfirefox.com)---Firefox has add-ons to help with more security (World of Trust was recommended to warn against sites with a poor reputation)
*Spybot Search and Destroy (www.safer-networking.org)---this is a manual scanner and should be updated and used every 2 weeks.
*Malwarebytes Anti-malware (www.malwarebytes.org)---again a manual scanner to be updated and used biweekly.
*AVG Antivirus & Antispyware (www.freegrisoft.com)---Automatic scanner
*Windows Defender (www.microsoft.com)---for Windows XP and Vista---Automatic scanner

So, if you are looking for some other options for anti-virus and more, you may want to check these programs out.  Please remember, I am not a computer professional, but am just passing along the advice of my computer repair shop. Pin It Print Friendly and PDF
