Has winter been dragging you down???

I typically am an optimist, with a "glass half full" attitude, and try to look through my "rose colored glasses" for the most part, but it has been one crazy winter...tons of snow (even for places that usually don't have snow)...ice storms...and this newly named, "Polar Vortex"...crazy!!!  We have had more of our share of below zero temperatures, and know it's been cold when we think 10* degrees feels "warm"!!!

I love using Purex Crystals...but only use them sparingly.  I am the only female in a house full of boys (husband included).  So, they really don't care for their clothes smelling pretty!  LOL!

Purex UltraPacks plus Oxi Review and a super quick GIVEAWAY!

These are super easy to use!!!!

I honestly love the convenience of these great little Purex UltraPacks!  All I have to do is load my clothes in my front loader washing machine, and throw in a little Purex UltraPack, close the door, and go!  No measuring at all!

As usual, Purex is great at getting our clothes clean...I love the added boost of Oxi and Zout stain removers.  With 3 active boys in the house...stains are common.  :)

Borax...a review and quick giveaway!

Borax...I love using Borax!

It is one of the ingredients in the homemade laundry detergent that I make...

There are other ways I like to use it however:
1.  Add a tablespoon or 2 of Borax to a few cups of hot water....swish it together, and this makes a fabulous floor cleaner for my bathroom linoleum floors.  (Sometimes I make a little "paste" and use it on the floor with a scrub brush too).  Mind you, you actually need to get down on your hands and knees, and use a little elbow grease, but this is very effective in getting the hairspray residue off of the floor!  :)

2.  I have made my own dishwasher detergent before mixing equal parts Borax with equal parts Super Washing Soda, and adding 2 T. to the dishwasher before running it.

3.  Sprinkle Borax into the toilet bowl, scrub around with a toilet brush.  Let the Borax/water sit in the bowl for at least 30 minutes before flushing.

4.  Then there's "gak"...an unconventional use for Borax.  I made "gak" several times when I taught elementary science classes...Borax, and Elmers Glue!!  Check out a video of  "Gak"

Purex Fels Naptha Laundry Bar Review and Giveaway

"What in the world is Fels-Naptha?", you may be thinking.  You may have never heard of it, but if you are like me, you just might have memories of this gold bar from your childhood.

A few years back I was investigating ways to save money and be more frugal.  I came across several recipes for making my own laundry soap.  One of the ingredients was Fels-Naptha...I remember my mom having a Fels-Naptha bar in the laundry room when I was a little girl, but hadn't thought of it for years.

The first recipe I tried was very time-consuming to put together, as it required boiling ingredients, etc.  I felt it worked pretty well, but wasn't completely sold on the idea.

The second recipe I tried, also used Fels-Naptha soap, but instead combined all dry ingredients, and made a "powder" rather than a liquid.  I really have enjoyed using that recipe, and just ran out this week!

Time to make some more!

But, Fels-Naptha is not just to be used in these recipes.  In fact, it dates back to 1894!!!  In this day and age, thankfully we aren't scrubbing laundry by hand, but Fels-Naptha can be very effective at stain removal.  It requires a little work (not just a spray from a bottle), but it is cheaper to use (and probably lasts longer too).
Just wet the stain, or stained area, and rub the bar on top of it.  For tough stains, work the soap in with a soft brush, and wash as usual.

I tried it out on my son's baseball pants...here is the proof that it worked rather well!

Soft Scrub Mold & Mildew Stain Remover Gel Review and Giveaway! 3 winners!

I was happy to review a mold and mildew remover from Soft Scrub (given the chance as I am a Purex Insider).

Our house is now 15 years old, and things start getting worn out and stained, unfortunately!!!

We only have one shower in our house, so it gets used by all 5 of us! I will admit that it is not as clean as I would like it to be!!! I don't always realize it though because I often take a shower before I put my contacts in...that's ONE way to avoid seeing that it needs to be cleaned! LOL!

In the past I have avoided using strong cleaners in my home. Mainly I don't like the strong fumes, so I was eager to try the Soft Scrub Mold and Mildew Stain Remover...especially since it was a gel! Although stronger smelling than using a more natural cleaner, like Borax, the scent was not too over powering. I appreciated the spray gel, as I was able to get into the corners of the door frame where the gunk likes to hide! I used an old toothbrush to scrub the gel into the stained/gunky areas. I then rinsed with water, and it did a pretty good job on removing that gunk, with minimal elbow grease on my part!

Soft Scrub 4 in 1 Toilet Care review and giveaway! 3 winners!

As a Purex Insider,  I had the opportunity to try the Soft Scrub 4 in 1 Toilet Care.  Anything that makes cleaning the toilet easier is a perk for me!  :)

The scent was a clean, but not over-powering scent.  I like things to smell fresh, but not have too strong of a scent.  I think the Alpine Fresh scent was pleasant.  As far as the toilet water goes, even though 2 of the cleaners are green, it did not make the toilet bowl water green, but kept it clear.

The trickiest part was the hanger--getting it to fit correctly on the edge of the toilet.  It really didn't fit well on the first toilet, and wouldn't stay put in the water that should run through it during each flush.  I moved it to our other bathroom, which has a different brand of toilet, and it seemed to fit better there.

Of course, it doesn't do the actual cleaning for you...lol, but it does help to keep it cleaner between toilet bowl cleanings!

Dial Coconut Water Body Wash...review and giveaway!

Yippee!!!  It's the first day of Spring...unfortunately waking up to 6 degrees F, doesn't feel very spring-like!

About the only thing that is spring-like around here, is the Dial Coconut Water body wash that I have been using the past week!  :)

Dry Idea Advanced Dry Roll-On Review & GIVEAWAY!

As a Purex Insider, I was selected to review a great product...Dry Idea Advanced Dry Roll-On. 

To tell you the truth, I haven't used a roll-on deodorant in years, and I was pleasantly surprised!
The Dry Idea Advanced Dry Roll-On dried very quickly.  Once it dried, then I could smell the pleasant fragrance, "Powder Fresh".

...did this antiperspirant keep me dry??

Absolutely!!!  I even got to test it out many times as we sat out in VERY hot and humid MN summer weather and watched our 15 year old's baseball games (7 games this last weekend!)
I may have been "warm" (to say the least), but my underarms were dry!!!!  LOL!
