Frugal Dishwasher Detergent

Just wanted to share a "recipe" for easy to make dishwashing detergent.  I discovered the formula on the internet a few years ago so can't give proper credit where credit is due.  Sorry!  Anyway, I have used it many times and have always been happy with how it cleans our dishes.  Here it is:
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
Mix.
To use:  Add 2T. to dishwasher.
Run dishwasher!  It's that easy!
It is so inexpensive and works good too!
Let me know if you try it and it works for you. Pin It Print Friendly and PDF

4 comments make me happy:

  1. Don't laugh, but what's washing soda?

  2. Thank you for this recipe! We live in an older house and our portable finally gave up and was not replaced. Part of the reason was that the detergent is so caustic it makes me sneeze everytime I open the container. So, if and when we ever have a dishwasher again I will be sure and use this recipe.

Washing soda can be hard to find (the Walmart and Target near me don't have it) but I have found it at Cub and Byerly's along with Fels Naptha (used in the washing machine recipe)

  3. Hi Natasha! I am thrilled that I could share this recipe with you. I have been very pleased with it. I totally know what you mean about sneezing when you smell other detergents. That's how I feel when I walk down the laundry/cleaning aisle at any store. I hope you can get a new dishwasher in the near future so you can try it out! Thanks for your comment! :)

  4. Hi Jackie! I didn't know what it was either...it is Arm and Hammer super washing soda (sodium carbonate). It's kindof like baking soda, but you can't eat it!! You find it in the laundry/cleaning aisle. Give it a try...it works well and is SO inexpensive!!! :)
